Beyond the Rio Gila with Author Scott G. Hibbard
Beyond the Rio Gila
This historical novel puts the reader in the longest march in U.S. infantry history, which included four laundresses, two of whom were pregnant. The Mormon Battalion trekked through New Mexico, including Santa Fe and Albuquerque, in route from Council Bluffs to San Diego during the Mexican American War. A parallel march by the First Dragoons on horse- and muleback ventured through what is now the Gila Wilderness, guided by Kit Carson.
