THE GIRL IN THE TENT
What begins as a simple drive from Rapid City, South Dakota to Ajo, Arizona, to rent an artist’s apartment unexpectedly morphs into an odyssey of trust and self-discovery covering 15,000-plus miles around the western United States for over nine months in search of the right home. Following the simple intuitive directive to “Rest and the answers will come,” The Girl in the Tent encounters everything from mice to moose in her quest to relocate to a home she loves.
Told with honesty and humor and sprinkled with historical details, this delightful memoir reflects on our connection with nature, our ability to handle adversity, take things as they come, and most importantly what it means to stay in present time.
Nancy DeYoung
Nancy DeYoung’s love of writing began in second grade and never wavered. After high school, she attended college, majoring in communication, and that was where she met her husband, who received his degree in civil engineering. During their seventeen years of marriage, they had three daughters and lived and traveled to many cities and countries. After the children were grown and the husband was out of the picture, Nancy continued her travels.
Ms. DeYoung worked for a real estate development company for five years. She later co-wrote Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) manuals for a fabrication company. Nancy is an avid journal writer and taught "Get a Grip: Get a Journal" classes for many years. She had four papers published in the International Association of New Sciences Proceedings. Her articles have appeared online and in many magazines. She has published three books: Modern Shamans, Shaman's Vision, and The Girl in the Tent: Memoir from the Road.
Nancy says, "I have always written and always will because there is so much to say. There may be a limited number of words in the English language, but there are a gazillion ways to put them together."
Copies of The Girl in the Tent: Memoir from the Road will be available for purchase at this event and book signing!
