Founded in 2007 by Tash Terry and Elena Higgins, IndigenousWays has evolved from a musical duo into a global advocate for Indigenous arts, culture, and education. The film eloquently captures their mission to preserve and amplify Indigenous voices, with a particular focus on empowering Native American and Indigenous women.
At the heart of the documentary is the 2023 IndigenousWays Festival series, set in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on the tribal lands of O’ga P’ogeh Owingeh. HERSTORY
IndigenousWays was established in 2007 by Tash Terry, Diné/French/Irish from the Navajo Nation, and Elena Higgins, Maori/Samoan from New Zealand. Known as Indigie Femme, a musical duo, Tash and Elena joined forces to further their lifelong mission as singer – songwriters. They collaborated their musical talents, that heals, inspires positive change, and raises awareness about Indigenous wisdom and the arts globally.
Recognizing the power of music, storytelling, and the arts, they paved the way to raise awareness and garner global support for communities.
IndigenousWays is in nonprofit organization in Northern New Mexico. Native Americans make up 10.6% of New Mexico's population. For the last 18 years, the organization has been offering educational programs, including artistic and musical performances, as well as initiatives aimed at promoting, cultural awareness, values, and traditions.
