FREE POETRY WRITING WORKSHOP WITH LUCI TAPAHONSO

Saturday, October 8th, 4-5pm

Navajo teachings say that “The Sacred begins at the tip of my tongue.” What does this mean? How can this tenet apply to our daily lives? Can this view deepen our respect for this beautiful place (Santa Fe) we call home?

In this one-hour workshop, we will explore this concept through stories and poetry, and write about place, family histories, personal memories, and this world we share with other living beings.

Come prepared to immerse yourself in poetry and stories and to write in response to prompts, and if time permits, share the first draft of your poem.

Everyone is welcome! Please bring your favorite writing tools.

Luci Tapahonso is professor emerita of English Literature (University of New Mexico 2016) and served as the inaugural Poet Laureate of the Navajo Nation (2013-2015). She has published three children’s books and six award-winning books of poetry.
