Event Details

Get into the spirit of Halloween and Día de los Muertos by joining us at La Farge Library for a Sugar Skull (Calavera) and cartoon skeleton drawing class on October 14 at 2 p.m.  The class will be taught by cartoon caricaturist Gino Brazil.  Gino will briefly talk about the history and evolution of calavera art and the role Mexican artist Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913) played in the massive popularity of skeleton art over the last century.  Participants will then design, draw and color an easy calavera/sugar skull.  The last hour will be devoted to drawing easy skeleton figures.

Participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring photos of deceased loved ones, short poems dealing with life or death or short dichos (proverbs) that can be used alongside the sketches and drawings.  Drawing materials (paper, markers, and colored pencils) will be available at the class, but participants are always welcome to bring their own favorite sketch pads and drawing tools.
